Movie Review: The Karate Kid 2010

Last Saturday me and the kids (Diether and Renz) went to SM City Taytay to do some last minute school shopping for little thing we previously forgot. I would just have done it in a local market, but everybody is in RUSH mode to buy all the school need. Knowing this and for sure that the local market packed with people doing the same thing.

So I decided to do it in a more convenient place and taking my time. After the school shopping, we then trek to the other building for some relaxation. Bought the tickets earlier so no need to fall in line but the worst is yet to come. Another line is form for entering the cinema, the line stretched all the way to the lower basement.

After 30 minutes of waiting in line we got in a spotted a good seat and relax till the movie started.

For those who have not seen the original movie. The Karate Kid is a remake of the same title in the early 80’s casted by Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita.

The Story…
The story revolves around a 12 years old Dre Parker who was forced to give his old life in Detroit to transfer to (China) because of his mothers work. Being in a new land with little knowledge of China’s culture and local dialect he feels betrayed for being drag all the way to China.

He tried to make new friends with a beautiful girl Mei Ying which he has fallen for which goes vice-versa for Mei Ying but was bullied by Cheng to stay away from her. Dre was beaten up badly on his first day in his new home and worse was embarrassed in-front of the girl he likes. Dre trying really hard to adopt to his new environment, and keeping away with Cheng’s group. But luck is not in his side.

One day while trying to avoid Cheng’s group. He got an opportunity to get even for beating him up. He threw a container of dirty water at them and ran for his life. But Cheng’s group ran after him until he got cornered and was beaten up once more but now its a 6 against one. Then Mr. Han came and tried to stop them but the bullies did not listen and went after Mr. Han. But was thwarted by Kung-Fu Master Mr. Han. He didn’t actually beat them up but did made them hurting each other on the process.

Then one thing lead to the other, then they end up entering to an open Kung Fu Tournament where their student will fight. This is were Mr. Han decided to teach Dre real Kung Fu, Mr. Hans way. You need to watch it to find out what happens next…

The Characters…

Dre Parker ( by Jaden Smith) is the lead man of the Karate Kid (remake). He has a strong personality that can lead to trouble, but his heart is in the right place. Problem with authority and always wanting his way. But after transferring to China everything gone bad. Now his the new kid. He needs to blend in if he wants to have a normal life.

Mr. Han ( by Jackie Chan) is the maintenance man of the place they are staying. He is also a Kung Fu master that knows real Kung Fu. That he will be taught to Dre when they entered the Tournament.

Mei Ying (by Wenwen Han) is a beautiful young girl and a great violinist. Dre like Mei Ying very much and in the course of the film their friendship bloom. They will be best friends but thing will get rough to test their young friendship.

Cheng ( by Zhenwei Wang) his the bad boy for this movie. The bully that is causing Dre’s stay in China hard. Being one of the top student in a Kung Fu school which teaches “NO WEAKNESS. NO PAIN. NO MERCY”. His the dude you wouldn’t want to be angry with you.

My Verdict…

I strongly recommend you to see the movie with your family. The film has good messages to imparts its viewer. Such us to help in the house. Do your part in helping you parent, be courteous and respectful to others, discipline is the key to achieving what you want in life, and to be diligent in life. Never give up on something that you truly want and never to let anyone say that you can’t do it. To always stand-up when you fall down. This are the lessons that I got in the film. Let see what you got after seeing the film.
