Movie Review: Prince of Persia The Sands of Time

Another movie that came out of a game story, the Prince of Persia; The Sands of Time is the newest addition to this line of movie conception.

The Characters…

The courageous Prince Dastan, the youngest of the three siblings that rule the land of Persia. The adopted son of the King of Persia as foretold in the King’s prophesy. The one who led the army of Persia to the impenetrable Holy City of Alamut.

The revengeful uncle Nizam, brother to the king and the one who plotted the raid to the Holy City of Alamut to obtain the ultimate power with a mystical weapon that can control the very fabric of time.

The beautiful Princess Tamina, the guardian of an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time — a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

The Story…

After sieging the Holy City of Alamut and being declared as the Lion of Persia. Prince Dastan has been betrayed and accused as to the murder of his adopted father the King Sharaman. Together with Princess Tamina, they escaped the city to clear his name. Upon learning the true motive behind the Alamut’s invasion from Tamina, and the power the dagger posses. Dastan is now on a journey to stop Nizam’s plot to gain power and protect the mystical weapon that can control the very fabric of time.

My comments …

Lots of superb action was shown in the film. The special effect are greatly incorporated in the film that the viewer will truly believe that the scene was done in real life. Such is the scene while Dastan was climbing the wall with arrows from an archer who is shooting it from afar. One shot almost hits Dastan’s hands that gave him a shock. I mean, the actors reaction and the timing of the Visual effects were so accurate that the people watching it will also flinch.

I love the scene were Dastan jump from a ledge to enter and opening in the wall to tie the rope he carried to dismantle a support of a huge pot of hot oil. This is in-order to stop the approaching soldier and let the invading Persian’s in the city gate.

The witty comment and punch lines of the two main characters are also remarkable. While the love-hate relationship continue to grow, so as the story on which the fate of the whole world is at stake is also coming to an end.

The Verdict…

The story is great, but the ending sucks. Being told throughout the whole movie that if the container of the Sands of Time is be broken, all will be lost. But on the flow of the story, Dastan opened the jewel on the hilt of the dagger to let the sand of time out to return them back from the time of the invasion to stop Nizam of his plan to blackmail him and save Tamina from her death.
