Join the Pasig River Marathon and help SAVE it.

I grew up at Angono, Rizal. As a boy I always hear stories how magnificent the Pasig River were. How clean the water was. Children come to swim and play on the river without worries of any diseases they might get.

Now, when I got to work I always pass by the once great river. Seeing it so… so… I can’t actually find a word more appealing. But here it goes, DIRTY. Shanty of all sizes can be seen in its sides.

Many individual and groups are trying to revive the river. But they need all the help they can get. They need our HELP. Our combined individual effort, no matter how small will have a big impact in their goal.

Everyone can join in the restoration of the Pasig river.Whether you are young or old, student or belonging to the working force. You can help.  What can college students do to help Pasig River?

This coming November 8, I invite and encourage everyone to join and Save the Pasig River, sign up and run! The Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) has organized a Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River at the Quirino Grandstand. Here is a Facebook event page of Pasig River Marathon.

This will be a good run for runners will not only get a good cardio workout and they will get an up-close view of what the state of the river is now. A nontraditional route will be taken. That will cross nine of the 13 bridges of the waterway; portions of the race will be run alongside the river itself.

A 42K full marathon challenge is given to the serious runners. Which can also be run by a relay team of 20 and 40 people per team. This will be great for a group of officemates who want to take the stress out of work. The relay will run the full length of the marathon route divided by 20 points. Each point will be assigned a prominent landmark or bridge along the route.

I will be joining the 3k-5k-10k distance categories. Water stations will be situated every 2km from starting line to finish line.
